You don’t lose momentum because of big failures.
You lose it because of too many things sitting at 80%.
The half-written post.
The offer you didn’t finalize.
The idea you “just need to tweak later.”
Each one quietly takes up space in your mind.
It’s not just clutter. It’s cognitive load.

Your brain keeps reopening those loops, asking: “Should I finish this now?” “Is this still relevant?” “Did I forget something?”
And that’s what drains your energy.
Not the work itself — the unfinished state of it.
Most people try to fix this by starting less.
But the real shift is simpler: Close more.
Here’s a small rule you can use today:
- If it can be finished in 15 minutes → finish it now
- If not → define exactly what “done” looks like
- If you won’t finish it → consciously drop it
No “I’ll come back later” without a decision.
Because open loops don’t just wait. They follow you.
Before you open another tab, ask yourself:
What is one thing I can fully close today?
Not improve.
Not expand.
Just finish.
